The Cartographer

The Cartographer

Project Summary

The project for this concept is now available as part of the ZBrush 2025.2 update inside the 'Pro Projects' folder so you can open it up and explore it yourself! I designed this piece as a comic-style render, and the full scene is 100% rendered in ZBrush. You’ll find everything set up to dissect how the final look comes together—from the NPR filters and custom comic material, to a collection of brushes and textures that you can reuse or tweak for your own projects. Think of it as a peek behind the curtain into my full workflow.

The Cartographer

A bit of 'backgorund story' I created for this character in case you are interested:
“Day 43. The beetle's stride remains steady despite the shifting sands. I suspect we’re close to the ridge mentioned in the old Aetherian charts… though those maps are more guesswork than guidance.”
Equipped with little more than his trusty satchel, a quill scanner, and an oversized mount with a taste for phosphorescent fungi, the Cartographer roams the silent plains of the charting lands no one remembers and recording anomalies no one believes. Strange spores rise like signal flares in the distance, and each step could lead to a new discovery… or an old danger.
He isn’t a hero or a soldier. He’s just a stubborn explorer with a mission: to map the unmappable. And maybe, just maybe, figure out what happened to the crew who first landed here and vanished without a trace…
