Barzu

Barzu

Project Summary

Excited to share a new character for The Extra Mile universe. Barzu is the sidekick of Kudu (the main character) and is also a space mechanic but a lot grumpier. I've developed this concept from scratch during the live workshop of the course with the students of Cohort #04

Project Details

Barzu's Backstory: Barzu hails from the Vorrak Veil, a labyrinth of drifting metallic shards and crystallized nebulae left in the wake of the ancient Eternals' Cataclysm, a calamity that fractured entire star systems. His species, the Vrynathi, are biomechanical beings with exoskeletal spikes that naturally secrete a plasma-like substance capable of neutralizing corrosive environments. Barzu’s head spikes are not only a defensive adaptation but also serve as conduits for channelling Ferrocurrent, a rare form of energy that allows him to interface directly with advanced machinery, breathing life into dormant systems.Barzu once served aboard the Shardbreaker, a renowned scavenger vessel, with a crew notorious for recovering and repurposing high-value relics. His knack for restoring seemingly irreparable technology, like the Ithranium Core, an energy source thought permanently inert, made him a legend in his field. However, Barzu’s abrasive attitude and disdain for bureaucracy led to frequent clashes with the crew, eventually resulting in his departure. Seeking solitude, he relocated to the Echo Cradle, a hidden asteroid field where he continues to innovate, crafting devices far beyond what the rest of the galaxy can imagine. Barzu’s life took an unexpected turn when Kudu arrived at the Echo Cradle, his advanced ship crippled by a malfunction in its Veyron Engine. The two clashed immediately... Kudu’s unshakable optimism grated on Barzu’s pragmatic nature, but the challenge of repairing the engine’s advanced tech proved irresistible. Under Barzu’s skilled hands, the engine roared back to life, and despite his gruff demeanour, he found himself drawn into Kudu’s adventures.
